About us

Founded in 2024, Skylark Energy Solutions is a consulting firm based in Madison, Wisconsin that specializes in solving problems for the electric power T&D sector. Skylark frequently collaborates with other consulting firms and start-up companies on various projects for electric utilities.

  • David Skrovanek, PhD

    CEO & FOUNDER

    David’s desire to improve and modernize the transmission grid through grid-enhancing technologies (GETs) motivated him to launch Skylark Energy Solutions. He holds a PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison where he researched HVDC transmission and power electronics for offshore wind energy.

    CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER

    With over 30 years of experience working with electric utilities in Europe, Christian brings specialized knowledge in fiber-optic technologies and power grid infrastructure to the team. He also owns and operates a consulting firm based in Germany.

  • Georg Letsch

    DIRECTOR OF ENGINEERING

    Hailing originally from Leipzig, Germany, Georg brings extensive software experience from other industries he’s worked in to Skylark. He is also part of a task force within 50Hertz Transmission working to integrate FORM into their IT system.

Areas of Expertise

Dynamic Line Ratings (DLR)

Skylark has 4+ years of experience with evaluating and implementing commercial DLR technologies and has developed a custom, patented solution that is used today on three operational 380-kV lines within the 50Hertz Transmission network in Germany.

High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission

Skylark has provided analytical expertise on several utility projects related to fiber optics, including the design of new OPGW networks and the development of custom fiber-optic sensors for grid monitoring applications.

Fiber-optic technologies and OPGW networks

Whether it’s for offshore wind farms, underground cable transmission, or long-distance overhead lines, we are knowledgeable and experienced with analyzing and laboratory-scale testing of HVDC systems and their power electronic architectures.
